Georgy Lisitsin (1909-72) was a renowned Soviet chess master, theoretic, and writer. In 1958 he published the revised edition of his most ambitious work, titled Strategy and Tactics of Chess, which became one of the most legendary chess manuals in the history of the Soviet school of chess, and undoubtedly one of the books that motivated a young Bobby Fischer to learn Russian.
Lisitsin split up strategy and tactics to their key elements, allowing chess players of all levels to systematically learn from carefully selected games ans studies. Key Elements of Chess Strategy and its sister volume, Key Elements of Chess Tactics are the first complete english translations of Lisitsin's classics.
In this volume, Lisitsin explains the basics of strategy and divides them into categories such as placement of pieces, exchanges, and weaknesses, followed by a section of the book on crafting a strategic plan with concepts such as blockades, the initiative, pawn chains, and planning in the opening.
